Shanghai University President Jin Donghan visited CIBU

On June 08, 2018, President Jin Donghan of Shanghai University paid a visit to Istanbul and participated in the reception of Mayor Ying Yong's visit to Bogazici University. He also visited the Confucius Institute at Bogazici University(CIBU).      During the visit, President Jin Donghan held talks with President of Bogazici University, Mehmed Ozkan. Both sides affirmed the achievements of CIBU jointly established by the two universities in the past ten years in terms of Chinese language teaching, cultural exchange, and academic research, and expressed their appreciation for the good cooperation between the two universities. Looking into the future, both parties hope to conduct all-round exchanges and cooperation in such fields as science and technology, engineering, economic management, arts, and archeology. Under the “One Belt and One Road” background, the two universities also expressed their willingness to cooperate with local multinational corporations in China and Turkey, and they believe that there are broad prospects for cooperation in such areas as technological research and development. The principals of the two schools also mentioned that they hope to increase the exchange of teachers and students in the two universities and promote cooperation by promoting exchanges and understanding. With the witness of Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong, Bogazici University and Shanghai University signed the second round of inter-university cooperation agreement.      Afterwards, President Jin attended the opening ceremony of the “Photo Exhibition of China’s Reform and Opening-up Achievements” organized by CIBU. In his speech, he mentioned that in recent years, with the joint efforts of both universities, the Confucius Institute has established a spiritual bridge through language teaching, and has played an important role in deepening mutual understanding, mutual trust, and seeking common development. At the same time, it has also made important contributions to learning the Chinese language, understanding China, and developing traditional friendship among the people of all walks of life in Turkey.      The photo exhibition held at Bogazici University is the epitome of Shanghai's 40 years of reform and opening up. It is a window for teachers and students of Bogazici University and Istanbul citizens to understand China and understand Shanghai. The photo exhibition was sponsored by the Foreign Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People's Government, Bogazici University and Shanghai University, and was organized by the Confucius Institute at Bogazici University. It was also supported by the Chinese Consulate General in Istanbul.
