Mayor of Shanghai Visits Bogazici University

    On June 08, 2018, the deputy secretary of the Shanghai municipal party committee and the mayor of Shanghai,Ying Yong visited Bogazici University and cut the ribbon for the opening ceremony of “ Photo Exhibition of China's Shanghai Reform and Opening-up Achievements”.      Mayor Yong Yong visited the city and was warmly received by the president of Bogazici University, Mehmed Ozkan, and the president of Shanghai University. During the meeting with the President, Ying Yong pointed out that opening up is the biggest advantage of Shanghai. International exchange in education is an important embodiment and part of Shanghai's opening to the outside world. Since 2008, Shanghai University and Bogazici University have jointly established Confucius Institutes and have achieved fruitful cooperation in Chinese education, cultural exchanges, and academic research. The Shanghai municipal government will, as always, support the development of the Confucius Institute and the cooperation between Shanghai University and Bogazici University. It is hoped that the cooperation between the two universities will become a model of cooperation between Shanghai and Istanbul. The principals of the two universities introduced the cooperation between the two sides over the past ten years, fully affirmed the role played by the Confucius Institute at Bogazici University , and expressed satisfaction with the results of the cooperation between the two sides. With the witness of Mayor Ying Yong, Shanghai University signed a second inter-college cooperation agreement with Bogazici University to promote the cooperation and exchange in all fields.      During the visit, Ying Yong also attended the opening ceremony of “Photo Exhibition of China's Shanghai Reform and Opening Up Achievement”. The photo exhibition was held at Bogazici University, sponsored by the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, Bogazici University and Shanghai University, and organized by the Confucius Institute at Bogazici University. It was also supported by the Chinese Consulate-General in Istanbul. As a microcosm of Shanghai’s 40 years of reform and opening up, this photo exhibition has become a window for teachers and students of the Straits University and Istanbul citizens to understand China and understand Shanghai.      The Chinese Consul General in Istanbul, Mr. Cui Wei, accompanied him.
