Mayor of Shanghai Visited Confucius Institute at Boğaziçi University

May 8, 2015, Mayor of Shanghai, Mr. Yang Xiong, visited Confucius Institute at Boğaziçi University, accompanied by Deputy Consul General of PRC in Istanbul, Mr. Ding Xiaohong and President of Shanghai University, Prof. Luo Hongjie. Rector of Boğaziçi University, Prof. Gülay Barbarasoğlu hosted the honorable guests. During the meeting, both the Mayor and Rector of Boğaziçi University highly praised the work of Confucius Institute. Shanghai and Istanbul are friendship cities. And Confucius Institute becomes a bridge between Boğaziçi University and other universities from China, with Shanghai University in particular. One key event of this visit is the agreement on co-developing Center for Turkish Studies between Shanghai University and Confucius Institute at Boğaziçi University. During the past couple of years, Confucius Institute organized two China-Turkey forums and published the first Blue Book on Turkey, together with Center for Turkish Studies at Shanghai University and Asian Studies Center of Boğaziçi University. Academic research has become a distinctive characteristic of this Confucius Institute. After the meeting, Mr. Yang Xiong entered the classroom of Confucius Institute. “Chinese Bridge” prize winner, Ms. Sureyya Tak, had a tea art performance with singing the well-known Chinese song, Molihua. The students also had a Turkish dance to celebrate the Mayor’s visit. At last, Mr. Yang Xiong had a group photo with students. The students answered his hellos both in Mandarin and Shanghai dialect. The whole visit came to an end in happiness.
