The Director of Shanghai Municipal Education Committee Xue Mingyang Visited Confucius Institute at Bogazici University

At 1:30 p. m. on November 29, 2012, the Director of Shanghai Municipal Education Committee Xue Mingyang and the delegation he led visited Confucius Institute at Bogazici University (CIBU).

Stuff of CIBU with the delegation from Shanghai Municipal Education Committee The Chinese Director of CIBU Dr. Miao Fuguang showed the delegation around the Institute. They entered into the Chinese class at CIBU. The students welcomed the visitors by wearing Qi Pao and Tang zhuang and singing a Chinese song. Director Xue Mingyang encouraged the students to study Chinese hard and sincerely welcomed them to visit Shanghai and also study in Shanghai. Later, the Chinese Director Miao Fuguang introduced the development of CIBU, the present situation of Chinese language teaching and the cultural activities held by CIBU in 2012. Director Xue Mingyang talked about the important influence of Confucius Institutes around the world both as Chinese language teaching institutions and as platforms for cultural communication. He spoke highly of the work done by CIBU, emphasized CIBU’s important position——it’s located at the borderline of the east and the west, and expressed his support for the further development of CIBU.

Director Xu Mingyang enter into Chinese class at CIBU At 2:00p.m. accompanied by the Chinese Director Miao Fuguang and the Turkish Director Prof. Esenbel, Director Xu Mingyang met with Prof. Dr. Gulay Barbarosoğlu, the president of Bogazici University. Prof. Gulay introduced basic situation of Bogazici University to the delegation. Director Xu Mingyang said Istanbul to Turkey was Shanghai to China. The mutual communication in education would do lots to the friendship between the two cities. He also emphasized the importance of CIBU and thanked for Bogazici University’s support for it. The two parts expressed their wish for strengthening communication and cooperation between the universities in Shanghai and in Istanbul.
