2014 SUMMER CAMP- “IMPRESSION OF CHINA”

From July 1st to July 15th, twenty Turkish students attended the 2014 summer camp of “Impression of China” at Shanghai University, with the sponsorship of Confucius Institute at Boğaziçi University. In addition to the BU students, they are from Istanbul University, Koç University, Sabancı university, Doğuş University, and Bilgi university.

On July 1st, the opening ceremony was held at Lehu Building of Yanchang campus. Prof. Yu Jiang and Dr. Huang Ruqi welcomed the students on behalf of Shanghai University. Selda as a student representative shared her first impression of Shanghai and the campus.

As the host, the College of International Exchange provided lectures of Chinese history, culture and economy. In the meantime, the students practiced calligraphy, Tai-chi, tea art, etc. They also took some Chinese language courses according to their own level. Three volunteer teachers who will join CIBU, Chunyan Liu, Jing Yao and Qijun Wu, are assistants to this program. Besides, the sponsor also organized some sightseeing, including Shanghai Bund/the Oriental Pearl Tower/Huangpu cruise, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, Shanghai Museum, the People's Square, Yu Garden. They also had chance to visit Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum and Confucius Temple in Nanjing, as well as the West Lake in Hangzhou.

On July 8, the Turkish students had an exchange party with students from Liberal Arts College of Shanghai University. The camp closed on July 14; the students got their certificates from the organizer. Some of them took the chance to visit Beijing and other places of China.
