2014 Board Meeting of CIBU held in Boğaziçi University

On April 17, 2014, Board Meeting of Confucius Institute at Boğaziçi University was held in the rectorate conference room. Participants from Boğaziçi University include: Prof. Ali Tekcan, Provost and Turkish Chairman; Prof. Taylan Akdoğan, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Sciences; Prof. Selçuk Esenbel, Academic Coordinator of Asian Studies Center and Prof. Arzu Öztürkmen, Turkish Director of Confucius Institute. Participants from Shanghai University include: Prof. Wang Min, Vice President and Chinese Chairman; Prof. Yao Ximing, Dean of College of International Exchanges/Director of Confucius Institute Office; Dr. Ni Lan, Deputy Director of International Office and Dr. Liu Yi, Chinese Director of Confucius Institute. Prof. Shi Ying, Deputy Director of Office of Science and Technology of Shanghai University and Ms. Yang Guiyuan, Chinese language instructor of Boğaziçi University also attended the conference. Board of Advisors discussed and approved “Confucius Institute at Boğaziçi University Responsibilities and Rules of Conduct of the Board of Advisors”, summoned up CIBU’s events and activities in 2013, adopted the 2013 budget balance report, discussed and approved the CIBU’s next year’s programs and budget report. In 2013, during the activities such as Istanbul International Book Fair, China-Turkey Writers’ Forum, Chinese Film Festival and Chinese Spring Festival Celebration, CIBU’s excellent performance in promoting Chinese culture and increasing CIBU’s influence in Turkey win the unanimous praise of advisors. In 2014, besides the routine programs like Chinese teaching, “Chinese Bridge” Competition and Summer Camp, CIBU will continue to pay more attention to some academic programs like China-Turkey Forum and “Interpreting China to the West” series lectures, as well as carry out brand new programs. The combination of routine programs, continue programs and new added programs were also highly recognized by the Board of Advisors. In the conclusion part, leaders from both universities have confidence on further cooperation with each other via CIBU and will continue to support CIBU’s work and deepen academic ties. After the board conference, Shanghai University Delegation visited CIBU, expressed sincere gratitudes to all the staff’s diligent work, and encouraged them to make more contribution to promoting Chinese and spreading Chinese culture.
