Announcement on HSK Test

1. Levels of HSK Test

The new HSK consists of two separate exams-pen test and oral test. The pen test contains HSK (LEVEL 1), HSK (LEVEL 2), HSK (LEVEL 3), HSK (LEVEL 4), HSK (LEVEL 5) and HSK (LEVEL 6); the oral test including HSK (Basic), HSK (Elementary-Intermediate) and HSK (Advanced) is carried out by recording. We are organizing only the pen test this winter.

2. Requirement of different levels

The new HSK grades’ equivalent to “Chinese Language Proficiency Scales” and “A Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (CEF)” can be seen on the chart:

Test takers who are able to pass the HSK (Level I) can understand and use very simple Chinese phrases, meet basic needs for communication and possess the ability to further their Chinese language studies.

Test takers who are able to pass the HSK (Level II) have an excellent grasp of basic Chinese and can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.

Test takers who are able to pass the HSK (Level III) can communicate in Chinese at a basic level in their daily, academic and professional lives. They can manage most communication in Chinese when travelling in China.

Test takers who are able to pass the HSK (Level IV) can converse in Chinese on a wide range of topics and are able to communicate fluently with native Chinese speakers.

Test takers who are able to pass the HSK (Level V) can read Chinese newspapers and magazines, enjoy Chinese films and plays, and give a full-length speech in Chinese.

Test takers who are able to pass the HSK (Level VI) can easily comprehend written and spoken information in Chinese and can effectively express themselves in Chinese, both orally and on paper.

3. Testing purposes

1) A reference for the application of Scholarship.

2) A reference for an educational institution’s decision-making concerning recruiting students, assigning students to different classes, allowing students to skip certain courses and giving students academic credits.

3) A reference for employers’ decision-making concerning the recruitment, training and promotion of test takers.

4) A method for Chinese language learners to assess and improve their proficiency in Chinese.

5) A method for Chinese language training institutions to evaluate training results.

* From 2013 on, the student who applied for the Confucius Institute Scholarship must pass certain level of HSK Test: the 2nd level of HSK(the score must be more than 120)for one semester’s scholarship, the 3rd level (more than 180) for one year’s scholarship (more than 180) and 5th level (more than 180) for two years’ Master Program.

4. Date of the test: 11th January, 2014 and 16th March 2014

5. Venue: Confucius Institute, Kare Blok, North Campus, Boğaziçi University, Bebek Istanbul, Turkey, 34342

6. The procedure of registration and participation

HSK on 11th January, 2014

1) Fill out the registration form at office of Confucius Institute at Boğaziçi University with the examination fee and 4 photos before 15th December, 2013.(If you need help for online registration, bring also your digital photo.)

2) Sign up Online, choose time and site, and upload the photo before 16th December, 2013;

3) Attend the Test Introduction in Confucius Institute at 10:00am, 4th January, 2013;

4) Attend the HSK Test on 11th January, 2014;

5) Test score query and certificate obtaining after 11th February, 2014.

HSK on 16th March, 2014

1) Fill out the registration form at the office of Confucius Institute at Boğaziçi University with the examination fee and 4 photos before 17th February, 2014.(If you need help for online registration, bring also your digital photo.)
