Violinist Sha Performing at Boğaziçi University

October 23, 2014, Chinese famous violinist Sha Xiaocao held a concert at Boğaziçi University, together with teachers and students from Music Conservatory of Shanghai University, in celebration of the fifth anniversary of Confucius Institute at Boğaziçi University, Turkey. At the beginning of the concert, Dr. Yi Liu, Chinese Director of CIBU gave a brief introduction of the development of Confucius Institute. He emphasized the conception of language as a kind of sound, while music is beautiful, and more powerful and effective in cross-cultural communications. The concert started with “Brandenburg Concerto No.3” by J.S. Bach. Sha played two solo songs: “Meditation” by Thais Czardas and “Chinese Serenade: Wonderful Night.” She also cooperated with her team on “My Motherland” and other songs. In addition to the classics, the Chinese folk songs, “Deliver Me a Rose” and “Song of the Herdsmen,” won a lot applauds. After the concert, Sha and her colleagues joined the Turkish dance with students. During their stay in Istanbul, the musicians also visited the Music Conservatory of Istanbul Technical University and Music for Peace School, a philanthropic foundation for music instruction. They also played at the opening ceremony of the Chinese TV channel in Turkey. This event is part of the celebration of the “Confucius Institute Day” and the fifth anniversary of Confucius Institute at Boğaziçi University. Sha is a well-known violinist in China, with her performance of “The Butterfly Love” and “Wang Zhaojun.” As the Chinese partner, Shanghai University sent the delegation from their new founded Music Conservatory, and contributed a lot to the success of this event.
